So many of our lovely and talented fans have astounded us by creating piece after piece of amazing Stitch People portraits. It would be totally selfish of us to keep all this creativity to ourselves!
So instead, here’s the beginning of a little mini series introducing you to some inspirational Stitch People stitchers who show you just how much potential can lie in your crafty fingers. We will be getting personal with some of our customers who have already taken the Stitch People pattern book to new levels of awesome.
We are overjoyed to start off with cross stitch crafter extraordinaire Louise Farrington all the way from the UK.
We first came across Louise’s beautiful portraits in the Stitch People Community Group. What we love most about Louise’s work is how amazingly versatile she is and how she hasn’t been afraid to use the Stitch People patterns as a jumping off point to add all kinds of charming and unique embellishments. Let’s meet her!
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I live in Wigan, North West UK. I am a primary school teacher by day and a stitcher by night. My main hobbies are cross stitching, embroidery, quilting and crochet. I enjoy watching rugby and drinking gin. I have 2 furbaby kitty cats Bob and Peggy and 8 backyard chickens.
How did you first come across the Stitch People book?
I found a link on pinterest whilst searching for a unique gift to make about 3 years ago.
What was your first Stitch People piece and how did it go?
I made a thank you gift for a fantastic teaching assistant who had worked with me. She LOVED it and still has it displayed in her living room. Then I started stitching for family and friends.
What have you enjoyed about making the portraits?
I love turning a photograph into a life long memory that can be cherished for years to come. The part I enjoy most is completing the finishing touches. These extra touches really finish off a portrait and make it come to life.
What’s been your favorite piece so far?
There was a special piece I created for my husbands auntie when she turned 70. It featured her children and grandchildren in outfits that showed their personalities. It also had a special star for her husband who sadly passed away. It takes pride of place on her fire place surround.
How have you developed your cross stitching skills?
The Stitch People tutorial for french knots helped me loads to make bouquets! I have also become much more confident in adding my own twist on portraits.
What advice would you give to people just starting their cross stitching journey?
Practice, practice, practice! My Nan taught me how to cross stitch and everything she taught me was valuable. So find someone who knows what they are doing and ask for advice. Failing that watch youtube videos. Choose something you would love to display to make first.
