Stitch People Stars: Linda Thompson

This week was a busy one for us!  We’ve been working hard and finally released Stitch People Academy!!!  The Academy takes all the things we’ve learned running Stitch People and gives you a head start in everything you need to know to start your own Cross-Stitch Portrait business.

BUT!  Before you open up shop and start putting your creation out into the world; above all else – you need to practice, practice, practice!

That’s why we’re giving you a double dose of Stitch People Stars this month!  Our next star is Linda Thompson who was given the Stitch People pattern book at the beginning of the year but has already created portrait after portrait for her family and friends.  Linda is just the type of person we built Stitch People Academy for; a cross-stitcher with so much enthusiasm and love for the Stitch People Patterns.  We definitely wanted to get to know her more.

Tell us about yourself!

I live in Lewiston, Maine. My other hobbies include: reading, running, Zumba, singing and doing my own nails by wearing Jamberry nail wraps. I have a guinea pig named Pippin who moved in to our house in May. We think he’s around 4 months old. I am a Special Education Technician at an elementary school.

How did you first come across the Stitch People book?

I learned about Stitch People through Facebook. I asked my mom to buy the book for me for Christmas last year.

What was your first Stitch People piece and how did it go?

My first piece was of my husband Tim, myself and our guinea pig at the time, Brisby. I made it in January of 2017 and am glad I did because Brisby died in May. I found it very easy to follow, I love how quick the portraits take. I can do one in about 3-4 hours.

What have you enjoyed about making the portraits?

I love picking out my family members faces! That is a lot of fun. I also love how easy they are and how customizable you can make them. I bought the Farm Animals book and my husband wants me to make a farm scene, just for fun!

What’s been your favorite piece so far?

My favorite piece is my first piece of myself, Tim and Brisby. I am glad I made it because it is a nice memory of Brisby that we had for three years..

How have you developed your cross stitching skills?

I remember sitting in Home Economics class in junior high and finding cross stitch books in the closet. That was my start, I just taught myself. I do enjoy smaller pieces than larger ones. I have made many wedding and birth announcements that used to be my favorites. Now Stitch People is! .

What advice would you give to people just starting their cross stitching journey?

I would advice people to start small and then branch out if you are comfortable. I have loved my journey because it makes me think of all of the memories I have made for my friends and family. I can’t wait to give my portraits to my family at Christmas!.

Where can we see more of your work?

Right now my work is in my living room. Summer has been great because I have had a lot of time to work on my projects and portraits.

Thanks so much to Linda for allowing us to share her work.  I hope you’ve been inspired to get practicing!  If you know someone who deserves a shout out – just let us know by dropping us an email any time at info@stitchpeople.com

Happy Stitching!!
